To ask the Minister for Health the steps that are being taken to increase adult mental health services in CHO7; if the precise measures deemed to be necessary are being taken forthwith; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

REPLY

I refer to the above Parliamentary Question that you submitted to the Minister for Health, the Minister has requested that the HSE respond directly to you on this matter. I have examined the question raised and the following outlines the position.
The strategic development of HSE Dublin South, Kildare & West Wicklow Community Healthcare (CHO7) Mental Health services is informed by our national mental health policy Sharing the Vision – A Mental Health Policy for Everyone 2020 and Connecting for Life: Ireland’s National Strategy to Reduce Suicide 2015-2024 and National Clinical Programmes.
The recommendations of Sharing the Vision: A Mental Health Policy for Everyone sets a particular focus on promotion, prevention and early intervention including improved integration between physical and mental health.
HSE Dublin South, Kildare and West Wicklow Community Healthcare Specialist Mental Health services are informed by a person-centred and recovery approach, our services include:
 Acute Inpatient Services (Lakeview Unit, Naas General Hospital, Jonathan Swift Clinic, St James Hospital, Acute Mental Health Unit at Tallaght University Hospital, Linn Dara Inpatient Acute Child Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS).
 Day Hospitals
 Outpatient Clinics
 Community Child & Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS)
 Community General Adult Mental Health Services including homeless services.
 Psychiatry of Later Life services (PLL)
 Mental Health of Intellectual Disability (MHID)
 Community Residential Houses
 Sub-specialties include rehabilitation and recovery, ADHD and Eating Disorders in CAMHS, liaison psychiatry and, peer support and recovery education.
 The Clinical Programmes and new models of care being developed and implemented in HSE Dublin South, Kildare & West Wicklow Mental Health Services are: Development of MHID Services in Dublin South, Kildare & West Wicklow.
 Allocation of Self-Harm Nurses in St James’s Hospital and Tallaght Hospital
 Nursing home Liaison service in St James hospital.
 Implementation of Talking Therapies Demonstrator Site in Kildare & West Wicklow.
 Implementation of the stepped model of care for the Homeless Access Team working with the Social inclusion Health team in St James Hospital.
 Development of Adult and ADHD services, recruitment is now complete for these services with posts filled in 2024. Rollout of the service for adults is to commence in the coming months.
 A Traveller Mental Health Co-ordinator is implementing the relevant mental health aspects of the National Traveller Health Action Plan across the CHO.
 HSE Dublin South, Kildare & West Wicklow Mental Health Services are working with HSE Estates and stakeholders to develop Mental Health Infrastructure within the area:
 Lakeview development is progressing through the approval process and is on the HSE’s National Capital Plan 2024 and is at design stage.
 Progressing the redevelopment of St James unit began with engagement between Mental Health Commission and St James.
 €1.8m is being made available for minor capital projects in CHDSKWW in 2024.
