The Health Service Executive (HSE) has been requested to reply directly to you in the context of the following Parliamentary Question, which was submitted to this Department for response.Appendix 1 provides details of the number of Nursing Homes Support Scheme applications received by the HSE in each of the past five years to date, as well as the number of applications refused, not deemed to require long term residential care services under the Nursing Homes Support Scheme Act 2009. The number of applications pending as at 31st December each year is also provided.Nursing Homes Support Scheme appeals are dealt with by the National Appeals Service, who provided details for this response. The numbers approved and declined on appeal are detailed in Appendix 2, below. It should be noted that an appeal may not progress to an approval or a declined decision for a number of reasons, which are also detailed in the table (is not classified as an NHSS appeal; is received outside the 40 days allowed for in the NHSS Act 2009; is withdrawn by the appellant; the client is now deceased).
