Transport | Progress on arterial road developments

To ask the Minister for Transport the extent to which progress is likely on urgently needed arterial road developments deemed by those directly affected to be vitally necessary in the shortest possible time; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The strategic planning of transport in the Greater Dublin Area is a matter for the National Transport Authority (NTA) and the NTA’s strategy is detailed in the Transport Strategy for the Greater Dublin Area 2022 – 2042 which is available from the NTA website https://www.nationaltransport.ie/planning-and-investment/strategic-planning/greater-dublin-area-transport-strategy/.  

In relation to arterial national road developments in the Greater Dublin Area, Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) wish to advise the following:

  • N1 Lissenhall Junction Traffic Study: an allocation has been provided to Fingal County Council to commence a traffic study of the operation of the interchange and surrounding road network.
  • N2 Rath Roundabout to Kilmoon Cross: Meath County Council has concluded Phase 2: Options Selection. Progress to Phase 3 will commence when funding becomes available.
  • N3 M50 to Clonee: Fingal County Council are to prioritise the provision of bus priority and cycle lanes. The Option Selection Report is being reviewed to focus on this priority.
  • M4 Maynooth to Leixlip: Kildare County Council are to prioritise the provision of bus priority. The eastbound Bus Priority Scheme has received Part 8 planning approval. Options for providing westbound priority are being developed.
  • N11/M11 Junction 4 to 14: Wicklow County Council are to prioritise the provision of bus priority between Loughlinstown Roundabout and Junction 9 (Glenview). Phase 2: Option Selection is ongoing.
