Transport | Proposals for north Co. Kildare rail line extensions
To ask the Minister for Transport the extent to which any new rail stations are being proposed or are anticipated on the Maynooth line or the Sallins line in the future; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
REPLY
The Draft Transport Strategy for the Greater Dublin Area 2022-2042 specifically identifies new rail stations at Cabra, Glasnevin, Heuston West, Kylemore, Woodbrook, west of Sallins, west of Louisa Bridge and west of Maynooth.
In relation to Kishogue Station, works have been identified to bring the building into compliance with up-to-date technical requirements, current operational arrangements and to also address some degradation of the building / platform fabric due to vandalism, theft, wear & tear, weather and animal/bird incursions. The completion of designs and the preparation of tender documents for these works at Kishogue station is on-going. It is currently targeted to commence the procurement process for these works in December 2022 with construction expected to commence in early 2023. This would allow the works to be completed and the station brought into passenger service by the end of next year.
Further development of additional stations on the Maynooth and Kildare lines will be considered following the progression of the DART+ Programme and will, of course, be subject to the availability of funding.
