Transport | North Co. Kildare rail line improvement projects
To ask the Minister for Transport the extent to which the passenger capacity of the commuter lines in north County Kildare can be improved while awaiting electrification of proposed commuter lines; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
REPLY
Iarnród Éireann are currently undertaking a review of the rail timetable and a public consultation has been held on proposed changes to routes to improve rail services. The responses to this consultation are still being considered.
In addition, delivery of a number of additional Inter-city rail cars (ICRs) has commenced. Following testing, commissioning and approval, they will go into service next year and will provide increased capacity of the commuter lines into Dublin, including the Kildare Line
