The objective of the DART+ South West project, which forms part of the overall DART+ Programme, is to provide electrified rail services between Hazelhatch / Celbridge Station and Heuston Station on the Dublin – Cork line, and from Heuston Station to Glasnevin via the Phoenix Park Tunnel. DART+ South West is currently at option selection stage, the preferred option has recently been the subject of a second public consultation process by Iarnród Éireann and the second round of feedback will feed into the preparation of a Railway Order application to An Bord Pleanála. The objective is to submit the Railway Order application for planning approval by the end of 2022. Commencement of construction will be subject to obtaining the necessary statutory planning approval and necessary approvals from Government to award contracts in line with the Public Spending Code. The timeline for construction of the project is approximately 4 years.
